Why Take The Challenge?

Thursday, 22 August 2019

Every year I swear it gets harder to go for a whole month without tea, coffee, and tasty beverages. But I keep coming back and taking the Safe Water September challenge year after year. Let me tell you why.

Safe Water September is a challenge. It feels great to set a goal for myself and follow through with it. I know it’s just a fraction of the challenges lots of people face daily, but by the end of September I have a real sense of achievement. I stuck to my goal and I raised money that will change lives!

Safe Water September lets me act on what I believe. As a follower of Jesus, I’m passionate about the same things he is. Jesus talked about justice and empowering people who are poor, vulnerable, or oppressed. When I take the Safe Water September challenge, I’m walking the walk and making sure that the things I say line up with the things I do. Taking part in the challenge makes a contribution towards God’s vision for the world.

Safe Water September changes lives. I know the money we raise together goes to our Safe Water September partners on the ground in Zimbabwe and Vanuatu, and it has real and concrete impacts on people’s lives. It’s one of the main reasons I keep coming back to Safe Water September, and one of the reasons I wanted to work for embody in the first place! I can meet and talk to people who have visited borehole projects in Zimbabwe and communities on Ambae in Vanuatu. People like i Elise who visited Vanuatu, and the Mpofus from Zimbabwe. I can see videos and photos on Facebook and Instagram of communities that have been transformed in part thanks to the money raised by taking the Safe Water September challenge. And I can journey with people over years, and keep hearing about how God is at work in their lives, their communities, and their countries. It’s so much more than just a fundraiser.

If any of that resonates with you, then I think the Safe Water September challenge is for you! You can sign up now at safewaterseptember.org.au and take the challenge to drink nothing but water for the month of September. I promise you that you won’t regret it – once you get over the caffeine withdrawal.
